POTAG not ready to call off strike

Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover Polytechnic teachers who are on strike have renewed their resolve not to perform the three out of the twenty-five (25) services that it renders in the Polytechnics until the its demands are met. A statement issued by the Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana (POTAG), after an Emergency Delegates’ Congress held at Accra Polytechnic on Friday June 8, 2012 and signed by its general secretary, Mr. Oswald Atiga said POTAG shall only call off its on-going strike action when they have seen evidence of the test-run being undertaken by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) in migrating its members onto the Single Spine Salary Structure at the end of June 2012. The teachers who have been on strike since the beginning of June said, while they appreciated all the efforts being made so far by stakeholders in resolving its salary issues, they hold the view that all the arrears due its members must be paid accordingly per the schedule. The statement said based on the experiences of other unions, “POTAG warns that it shall not countenance any form of distortion in the salaries of its members” adding that “any form of distortion would be an automatic trigger for further action” The statement however assured Polytechnic students and the general public that immediately these conditions are met it will reconsider its current position. -End- June 9, 2012
