Cop interdicted for rape(Monday, July 16, 2012. Page 330

Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga The Police Administration in the Upper East Region has interdicted a policeman, who is alleged to have raped a hearing impaired teenage girl in the Bongo township. The culprit, Corporal Justice Amu of the Bongo Police station was arrested and detained for allegedly raping a hearing impaired teenage girl, on Tuesday July 10. The Upper East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP), Mr. Bright Oduro, confirmed the interdiction to the Daily Graphic over the weekend. Some angry youth in Bongo besieged the Bongo District Police Station and insisted that the Corporal be arrested and detained for allegedly raping a hearing impaired teenage girl. According to the youth, the accused who was riding a motor bicycle saw the hearing impaired girl walking along the town road towards the main lorry park and offered to give her a lift on the back of his motor bicycle. The youth said on reaching the point in front of the Bongo Rural Bank, the victim tapped the policeman to indicate to him that she wanted to alight but he allegedly ignored the plea and rather sped on until they got to his residence and allegedly forced her into his room and had sex with her. According to the youth, on suspicion a group of youth who were attracted to the scene when the policeman refused to stop when the lady signalled him, followed up to the residence of the policeman and stormed the room only to realised that he had completed he act while the girl was also found lying on the bed in pain with blood oozing from her private part. A report was immediately made to the police who issued the victim with a medical form. The situation created some tension among the a section of the youth who threatened to take the law into their own hands and beat up the policeman but the timely intervention of some elders who advised against that averted a clash. The policeman man in question was subsequently arrested and detained pending further investigations
