POTAG advocates for more resources for polytechnics(Wednesday, March 7, 2012)

Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga The Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana, (POTAG), has called for an increase in the resourcing of the polytechnics in Ghana to enable them play their role of training of middle and high level man-power necessary for nation building. A communiqué issued by POTAG at the end of association’s 17 annual congress in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, also advocated for the streamlining of the establishing on private tertiary education. While acknowledging the invaluable contributions of private tertiary institutions in the country, POTAG indicated that there is the need for the various statutory regulatory bodies responsible for such institutions to ensure that effective mechanisms are put in place to maintain high standards within the tertiary domain of education. The communiqué signed by Messrs Francis Atintono and Oswald Atiga, National President and Secretary of POTAG respectively asserted that the seemingly indiscriminate manner in which most of these institutions are springing up could aggravate the already weak standards the country is grappling with within the tertiary sector. The association also added its voice to the spate of road accident in the country and the need to curtail the spate of indiscipline on the roads, which leads to the numerous losses of lives and properties in the country. “As we approach the festive Easter season, we entreat all road users to be cautious while on the road and observe all traffic regulations to help preserve lives and properties”, it said. On the up-coming national biometric voter registration exercise, POTAG encourage the Ghanaians especially the political and religious leaders, chiefs and opinion leaders to persuade eligible Ghanaians to actively participate in the exercise. -END-
