Defeated NDC candidate backtrack on his threat to go independent Story & Pix: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bawku One of the defeated candidates in the Binduri constituency primaries of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Mr Stephen Atubiga, who openly declared his intention to contest the parliament election as a independent candidate after losing the primaries has rescinded his decision. Speaking in Bawku, Mr. Atubiga who lost the primaries with a margin of two votes to the elected candidate, Mr Ben Noah Azure said his reason for backtracking on his threat was to help the party mobilise votes to topple the seating MP, Mr. Steven Yakubu of the NPP. He conceded that it will take the collective efforts of all to see the NDC recapture the seat in the constituency and therefore pledged his commitment to continue to support the party in whatever form to win both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections come December 2012. He said as part for the campaign for 2012 he has secured about 14 motor bikes for distribution to zonal chairmen and key constituency executives of the party to enable them campaign effectively for the party. While pledging his support for the party, Mr. Atubiga who now heads a pressure group, Eagle Eye Pressure Group with an objective check misuse of public office, defend, analyze and critic policies and champion the course of accountability stressed on the need for the party executives from the National, Regional and Constituency level to reconcile and bring on board all the candidates who lost the primaries to support the victors to pursue the party’s ambitions. “As a victim of electoral defeat, I know how it feels, but we have to put the interest of the party first.
