220 Police Recruits Pass out at Pwalugu

The Police Administration has undertaken various policy interventions aimed at reformation and restructuring with the view to improving skills, competencies and professionals of personnel at all levels.
The Director General of the Ghana Police Service in charge of Human Resource Development, Commissioner of Police (C.O.P), Alhaji Hamidu Mahama Sampa made this known in an address at the passing out of two hundred and twenty three police recruits at the Pwalugu Police Training School near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
The recruits, who passed out after a six-month basic police training designed to equip the newly trained recruits with enough knowledge and professional skills necessary to help them discharge their duties in conformity with national and international standards.
C.O.P. Alhaji Hamidu Mahama Sampa, who was recently enstooled a development chief by the Paramount Chief and people of Fodome Traditional Area under the stool name, Togbe Yingor Sampa I, said considering the central role that a professionally competent workforce plays in the achievement of corporate objectives, the police administration is feverishly implementing human resource improvement strategies that will go a long way to building the capacity of personnel.
In that direction, C.O.P. Hamidu said under a five year strategic national policing plan, a number of policing intervention are being implemented among which are the intensification of day and night patrols, improving intelligence gathering, installation of effective investigation mechanisms for crime detection and crime prevention.
Other strategies are increasing traffic management activities and partnering with all stakeholders in the fight against crime.
He commended the government for addressing some of the logistics constraints facing the service through the supply of 275 vehicles out f the over 1,000 that the service is expecting to help fight crime. While thanking the government, he stressed for the judicious use of the vehicles to prolong its lifespan.
He cautioned the recruits against over enthusiasm in the discharge of their duties, adding that they should be mindful of the fact that their competencies will be judged by the sense of competencies exhibited on the field.
On the pending national elections, C.O.P. Hamidu Mahama said it was incumbent on the service to continue to assure the political parties that the police shall not discriminate against any group or persons neither shall they display bias or partiality in the discharge of the duties, stressing that the police service will continue to remain accountable to the state in the maintenance of law and order at all times.
C.O.P. Hamidu congratulated General Recruit, Lydia Lamptey for emerging as the best recruit police officer and advised her recognition as a challenge to strive for greater heights in her chosen career.
Two other females, General Recruits Clarissa Senghor and Hawa Adawu emerged best in Academics and Drill respectively while the best in Marksmanship went to General Recruit Issaka Nagre.
