NDC cadre calls on National Leadership to take action (Friday, March 30, 2012)
Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga
A Senior Cadre and member of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) in the Upper East Region, Mr. Noble Asakeya Alagskoma has appealed to the leadership of the party to take steps to address swiftly, the discontent and grievances that has emanated at the grassroots level that has consistently given the party the mandate to govern the country.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr. Alagskoma identified the cause of the discontentment among sections of the followers of the party to greed by some leaders of the party.
“The greed where some party executives would want to have so many contracts at a time, denying others who are equally qualified contractors, does not arguer well for the development of the party. Also the situation where some party members become disgruntled and disillusioned and threaten to vote ‘shirt and blouse’ or against the NDC entirely for not being rewarded for their support for the party is equally dangerous”, he said.
He said no political party anywhere on the globe would capture political power and reward all its supporters whether with monetary gains or political appointment within its first term in office. “It is not practicable. What is key to me is about creating a conducive environment where both domestic and foreign investors will invest thereby creating jobs, which will certainly make life bearable for the citizenry”
“I believe this is what the NDC government under the leadership of President Mills has done within his short period which has won Ghana and the president global respect” he said adding that it about that other duty bearers to emulate the leadership of the President by eschewing greed and rather live beyond reproach in their day-to-day work.
“When it comes to probity, honesty, transparency and accountability coupled with the massive investment in the key sectors of the economy like education, health, agriculture, energy, and roads, the President stands extremely tall”
The senior cadre was however not enthused about the output of other duty bearers and urged them to remember that one day; they will be called upon to account for their stewardship either collectively or individually.
Mr. Alagskoma who is also a Pharmacy Technologist, also urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in the country to immediately wage a crusade against the filth that has engulfed the country since if done will decrease the health budget drastically as diseases like malaria, typhoid, diarrhoea and cholera among others would be prevented and the number of man-hours spent at our health facilities reduced.
