Former National Best farmer's house razed down by fire (Thursday, March 8, 2012)

Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga The residence of the 1996 National Best Farmer, Mr. George Alokodongo, was On Thursday dawn razed down when fire swept through the house and gutted the entire structure. Property consumed by the fire at the house located at Tindonmolgo, a suburb of Bolgatanga Municipality included personal effects as well farm produces including heaps of millet, maize, processed dawadawa and other food stuff harvested from his farm for consumption and sales. Among the items retrieved from the inferno in the house of the old farmer, were a Nissan pick-up, and a tractor. According eyewitnesses, the fire started from a Pharmaceutical Shop attached to the frontage of the house and which later spread to other parts of the house. They said it took some people passing in front of the house around 2:00am, to raise alarm and draw the attention of Mr. Alokodongo and his family to the incident. They however praised personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service for their swift arrival to the scene to deal with the raging fire. At the time of filing this report, it was unclear what caused the fire although some people suspect it to be due to an electrical fault. Official of the Ghana National Fire Service are however investigating the cause of the incident. Mr. Alokodongo was unavailable for comment at the time this reporter visted the scene. This latest inferno is coming on the heels of similar devastating fire that razed down a Bolgatanga based radio station, Radio A1 on February 14, this year which was also attributed to an electrical fault.
