Story & Pix: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Peoples Party, (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has toured the Upper East Region with a call on each and every polling station executive member to reach out to at least 10 people in order to help the PPP we win the votes that it needs to win the elections come December 2007. “We do not want anyone of your to spend money travelling to other places. Stay within your polling station and work for the PPP. We have 21 polling station executives in each constituency and if each of you should bring at least 10 people on board, we will be on the way to victory. We live with people. Everybody knows somebody, so don’t look at what others are doing. Talk to your friends, family members, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends so we can get the votes”, Dr. Nduom said. He was addressing polling station executives at two locations in Bolgatanga as part of his two day tour of the Upper East Region. He met party supporters at Tindonmolgo and Zuarungu where he told them that every election is won at the polling station level and as a party, they places a lot of effort at the polling station hence the need for polling station to work extra hard to get the PPP the needed votes. “Quite often people want to enjoy themselves, sing, dance and make noise but they end up forgetting why we are campaigning. We’ve learnt our lessons from previous elections and we are deciding to spend a bit of time on our own people so that they understand what each and every one of them must do so that we win the votes that we need come December 2007”, he told the Daily Graphic in an interview. “The purpose of this trip is to talk to PPP people who have accepted to become our polling station executives. We are swearing them in and telling them a simple message on what is it that they must do in order for the party to get votes”, he added. Earlier, Dr Nduom accompanied by the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Mr. Robert Anamolga, and the Regional Party Chairman, Mr. Roger Akanko paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, Naba Martin Abilba to announce his presence in the region. He told the Bolga Naba that as a private businessman, he has succeeded in branches of his business to the hinterlands including Bolgatanga, Bawku, Garu and this should give an indication that when given the nod as the next president of Ghana, he will tackle all the major developmental challenges facing the rural people. Here in the northern parts of Ghana, our people are neglected, there is lack of planning and we in the PPP are committed in bringing real development. Take the recent floods for example, we should be able to harvest the water for irrigation and not allow the volumes of water to cause loss to of lives and property and PPP will do that when voted into power”, he said. Dr. Nduom officially introduced the parliamentary candidate for Bolga central, Mr. Robert Anamolga to the Bolga Naba and elicit his prayer and support to enable him win the seat. “I know Robert Anamolga because he is my employee and i know is capabilities” he said adding that compared to the other candidates contesting the seat, Mr. Anamolga stands tall. Mr. Anamolga for his part said the PPP is worried at the old lady who has to walk 2 kilometres to access water, the jobless youth and many other challenges. “Bolgatanga is blessed with vast land but sadly we are not making good use of it. When given the nod, i will introduce venture like mango plantations, amongst others to empower the youth”, he said. -End-
