11 hospitalised after attack by Bees(Thursday, September 12, 2012. Page 55)

Story: Benjamin Xornam Glover, Bolgatanga A total of the eleven persons, comprising three females and eight males were admitted at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital with swollen faces and parts of thier bodies as result of the bee attack. The incident is said to have started around 4:30pm and by 5:00pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2012 during a busy market day around the Bawku Central Mosque. It is not clear what startled the bees from their hive located in between the Sunshine Guest House which also houses the First National Bank building and the Bawku Central Mosque near Natinga. The incident created pandemonium in town as people started running helter-skelter for fear that the usual Bawku conflict has resurrected again. When the Daily Graphic visited the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital, two out of the eleven detained has been discharged. Others on admission had no health insurance cards and even though they have been discharged, are still detained. Three of those on admission were visually impaired who normal congregate around the central mosque to beg for arms. Their bills range between GHc13.00 and GHc20.00. According to hospital sources, the visually impaired beggars as well as others who were aged could not run from their area when the insects striked resulting in they suffering from multiple stings by the bees A visit to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital a day after incident showed some of the victims though discharged were detained because of their inability to settle thier bills. They were visually impaired Alimatu Yobi, 25 and her aid, Ayishetu Ramani, 11 years, Shaibu Busanga, 60 year old man from Mazaima and Adama Musah, 70 years. Other were David Dangbandoo Gumah, 55 years from Binduri from Binduri. Meanwhile officials of NADMO in Bawku Municipal Assembly told the Daily Graphic that a report was being compiled to be submitted to the Assembly for assistance. -End-
