Police foil robbery in Tema; Make arrest in Prampram Mankralo murder case

Date: Nov 01 , 2019  .BY: Benjamin Xornam Glover

The Tema Police Command has foiled a robbery attack at a company in the Tema heavy industrial enclave.

The robbers’ sack contained weapons of different kinds

The two suspected armed robbers, who were riding a motorcycle with registration number M-19-GR37, are said to have attacked Vana Energy Company Ltd last Monday, but the workers raised alarm, forcing them to flee the scene on foot as they fell from the motorbike and left a sack they were carrying behind.

Items

Items retrieved from the sack were two AK 47 rifles, three magazines with 71 rounds of ammunition, one pump action gun with six cartridges, three machetes, an electric cutter with 10 blades, two crow bars, two large screwdrivers, an industrial cutter and three face masks.

The Tema Regional Police Deputy Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Jerry John Boye, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic last Wednesday and said it was under investigation.

Arrest

In another development, the Tema Regional Police Command has arrested one person suspected to have played a role in the assassination of the Prampram Mankralo (clan head), Nene Asture Benta III.

Mr Boye, who would not confirm the identity of the suspect, told the Daily Graphic that since the case was under investigation, releasing the identity of the suspect could jeopardise it.

Nene Benta III was gunned down by unknown assailants at Apollonia in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region on December 13, 2018.

The Mankralo, who was also the acting President of the Prampram Traditional Council, was ambushed and shot in his car on his way from a Regional House of Chiefs meeting at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District.
