Turkish Navy ship in for three-day visit

y Benjamin Glover | Wednesday, 16 April 2014 17:43 | A Turkish Navy Ship, “TCG Orucreis” has docked at the Tema Harbour for a three-day visit to strengthen the ties between the Turkish and Ghanaian Navy. “TCG Orucreis”, which is on a 102-day circumnavigation of Africa, is under the command of Rear Admiral Yasar Gamur. While in Ghana, the team would take part in training activities with its Ghanaian Naval counterparts to support capacity building efforts in maritime security. Briefing journalists aboard the warship in Tema, the Operation Officer of the Turkish Maritime Task Group, Lieutenant Humdullah Bayrak, said Ghana was the first port of call of the Turkish Navy. He said the objectives of the mission, among other things, were to conduct operations in the oceans around Africa in line with Turkish foreign policy, improve current bilateral relations with African nations including Ghana and establish new ones and contribute to the safety of sea lines of communication.
