Industrial fire at Miotso near Prampram extinguished; no
casualties recorded
Personnel from the Ghana
National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully extinguished a major industrial fire
that broke out at the Palladoor Annex in the Miotso Industrial Area near
Prampram on Friday, May 1, 2026.
The late afternoon blaze
engulfed two warehouses, destroying a substantial quantity of goods stored in
the facilities.
After about 11 hours of
intense firefighting, operations were concluded at approximately 2:26 a.m. on
Saturday.
The Public Relations
Officer of the GNFS, Divisional Officer Grade II Ebenezer Yenzu, said the
Service received a distress call at 3:11 p.m., with the first response team
from the Prampram Fire Station arriving at the scene within eight minutes.
He noted that
reinforcement teams were quickly deployed from the Tema Industrial Area, Tema
Regional Headquarters Substation, Ashaiman, and Sege fire stations to support
the operation.
According to DO II
Yenzu, the fire was confined at 8:07 p.m., brought under control shortly after
midnight, and fully extinguished at 2:26 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
He explained that the
affected warehouses were used for storing items such as mats, doors, and
mattresses, adding that three out of six warehouse units were completely
destroyed.

He indicated that
despite the scale of the destruction, firefighters were able to salvage
significant property, including two-storey buildings, three rooms, four movable
container houses, several barrels of diesel fuel, and six other warehouses
containing chest freezers, mats, and doors.
Investigations
The GNFS operation was
led by Tema Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Patrick
Sallah, who, together with other senior officers, supervised activities at the
scene and provided strategic direction. The Service also commended the
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other allied agencies for their support.
No casualties were
recorded. The GNFS has since commenced investigations to determine the cause of
the fire.
In a related
development, the District Chief Executive for Ningo-Prampram, Raphael Uriel
Nartey, visited the scene and praised the emergency response teams for their
swift and effective intervention.
